Rafael, now serving his third term as Alderman of the 7th Ward, has lived in Berwyn more than 25 years. He and his wife have two daughters and four grandchildren. He was elected to a 6-year terms as commissioner for the North Berwyn Park District and served as an appointee for 4 years on the Mayor’s advisory board.
For more than 35 years, Rafael has worked in commercial and residential property management and sales. He managed the Richard J. Daley Center in Chicago and assisted in opening Millennium Park in 2004.
Rafael is proud of his work in bringing Cermak Plaza from a historic low of 30% occupancy in 2009 to 100% occupied today, while continuing to bring high-quality businesses to the Cermak Road corridor, including Starbucks, Home Run Inn and Buffalo Wild Wings.
With his many years of experience, Rafael knows how to maintain property values. He has devoted much of his time in office to addressing blight in the 7th Ward, by working with city inspectors, with landlords to ensure property maintenance and with the police department to implement frequent patrols. As your 7th Ward Alderman, Rafael continues to devote his time and attention to making Berwyn the best city it can be.
